There is no rock on earth hard enough to resist the forces of weathering. It is a natural process caused by exposure to the elements over a period of time.

 

As it smooths rough, sharp surfaces, weathering is often the first step in creating soil.

 

A single type of weathered rock often produces infertile soil, while weathered materials from a collection of rocks is richer in mineral diversity and thus contributes to a more fertile soil.

 

The creation of fertile soil promotes apt conditions for growth.

 

Akin to nature, we humans also weather over time. However, we seem to choose whether or not we become smooth, combine our soils, and grow.

 

For this project I am working with humans I see, and am inspired by - they have chosen for the natural process of weathering to take place; become smoother and allowed creation of soils for growth.
